At Soule College,Papa was taught the penmanship for accounting and also
the more flowing and artistic way of writing.when he wrote for business,
it was more precise and shortened letters. It so happened if he wrote fast
to get his orders down it would be sometimes difficult for the office
people here in New Orleans. Some complained they didn't understand the
order sometimes. Remember there were no telephones to make contact,so
everything had to be written.
Then when he was relaxing at home, I have seen him at his desk writing
with a more flourishing type of letter formation with the more fancy
curlicues and flourishes. I thought that was beautiful handwriting. Nell
has probably some samples of his writing in a book that she has. I'll
have to ask her.
